RunBuddy
Privacy
RunBuddy is a small, private running log for a few friends. This page says what it keeps and who can see it. Last updated 4 November 2026.
Your own log stays on your phone
Your runs, notes, pain entries, heart rate and effort are stored on your iPhone and in your own iCloud. Notes, pain and heart rate never leave your phone and iCloud. A run you share sends only the fields listed below, nothing else. Weather on the Today screen is fetched for a fixed spot in Montreal. RunBuddy never uses your phone's location.
What the server stores
If you sign in with Apple to use friends and clubs, the server stores:
- your profile: the name you choose and an optional photo;
- the runs you share: date, start time, title, distance, moving time, pace, effort, elevation gain, kilometre splits and the route;
- your reactions and comments;
- your friendships and blocks;
- reports you make: the item and your reason (up to 500 characters). Only Casper reads them;
- clubs you belong to or create: club names, descriptions and photos, membership, meetups with their meeting spots (a map point and a place name), RSVPs, and, for club goals, the date and distance of runs counted toward them;
- what the app needs to sign you in and send notifications: your Sign in with Apple token (kept so it can be revoked when you delete your account) and your phone's push notification token;
- invite codes (stored hashed) and counters that limit spam.
RunBuddy asks Apple only for your name, never your email address, and keeps no email address.
What it does not store
Your full log, your notes, pain entries, heart rate, cadence, calories, and your own location (beyond the routes you share and meeting spots you post). Nothing is searchable or public.
Routes
Friends see the full route of a shared run, including where it starts and ends, which is often near home. You can hide any run from friends. A run you typed in has no route.
Who can see what
- A shared run, with its reactions and comments, is visible to you and your friends, unless either of you has blocked the other.
- Club members can see each other's names and photos, the club's name, description and photo, meetups with their meeting spots, RSVPs, and your distance on a meetup or club goal. They do not see the run itself unless you are friends.
- People who react or comment on a friend's run can see each other's names and photos.
- Someone holding your friend invite link sees your name. Someone holding a club invite link sees the club's name, its organiser and its member count.
- Casper, who runs RunBuddy, can technically reach the database. Server logs hold IDs, not run data or names.
Where it is kept
On Supabase, in the Canada (Central) region. Sign in is handled with Sign in with Apple. Notifications go through Apple's push service. RunBuddy has no ads and no analytics, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone else.
Friends' and clubs' data is cached on your phone to keep it quick, and is cleared when you sign out.
The server is on a free plan with no backups. If it ever lost data, shared runs, comments and clubs could be lost, but your own log on your phone and in iCloud is unaffected.
This website and its fonts are served by Vercel and Google Fonts, which see visitors' IP addresses like any website does.
Control and deletion
You can turn automatic sharing off, hide a single run, remove all your shared runs, remove a friend, block someone, or report something, all in the app.
Deleting your account in the app removes your profile, photos, shared runs, reactions, comments, friendships, club memberships and RSVPs, and we ask Apple to revoke RunBuddy's sign-in. Meetups you posted stay with their club, without your name. Reports you made stay with Casper. Your log on your phone and in iCloud is not touched.
